NPP National Executive Committee approves proxy voting

nppThe National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP has approved the use of proxy voting during the upcoming delegates’ conference scheduled for April 12 in Tamale.

Despite attempts by pressure group calling itself Faithful Group of NPP to stop the introduction of proxy voting at the conference, the National Executive Committee approved it.

Leader of the pressure group, Alhaji Buhari earlier told Citi News the proxy voting system was a calculated attempt by some of the old executives seeking re-election to rig the polls.

But the NPP NEC thought otherwise and approved the 137 proxy voters list.

Among some of the top issues hotly debated at the NEC meeting was who should print the ballot papers for the polls.

Whereas the likes of Member of Parliament for Okere, Dan Botwe suggested that the Electoral Commission should print the ballot papers, majority of the NEC members disagreed.

The NEC also approved the budget proposal for the conference, but did not disclose the exact total amount involved.

Citi News picked up signals that former President John Agyekum Kufour might not attend the Tamale conference due to his international engagements.

Present at the NEC meeting were the NPP’s 2012 Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo and former Chief of Staff, Mr. Kwadwo Mpianim.
