A student of the Central University College (CUC) was killed while several others sustained injuries after the University’s Hyundai bus they were travelling on board got involved in an accident at Kpone Barrier on the Aflao–Tema Highway.

Bernard Nii Agblore, a 25-year-old Business Administration student of CUC at Miotso campus at Dawhenya, near Tema, died instantly when the University’s Hyundai bus with registration number GC 4438 -12 collided with a VW Golf car with trial number DV 5587 B.

Bernard was among eight students who were travelling from the Tema Motorway Roundabout to the campus for an afternoon lecture.

Two students, who are in critical condition at the Tema General Hospital, are currently receiving treatment.

The remaining students sustained minor injuries.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the afore-mentioned hospital morgue pending autopsy.

When Daily Guide arrived at the scene, the injured were being conveyed by the police with the assistance of some residents and passersby to the hospital.

The accident caused major vehicular traffic on that stretch, which gave the police a hectic time.

Superintendent Oduro Amaning, Commander in-charge of the Tema Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, who confirmed the accident to DAILY GUIDE, said the passengers were travelling to the University when the accident occurred.

He noted that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the cause of the accident, adding that the driver of the VW vehicle sustained serious injuries.

Some students of the university told Daily Guide that the accident occurred on March 28, 2014 at about 1:00 pm.

Upon reaching the Kpone Barrier, the VW Golf car, which was travelling in the opposite direction to Tema, moved onto the middle pavement and rammed the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) bus.

The police arrived on the accident scene on time to convey the victims and the body of the deceased to the hospital.
