Samuel Ofosu, a 21-year-old man suspected to be involved in the cyber fraud known as ‘Sakawa,’ has been arrested by the police at Koforidua Asokore in the Eastern Region, for allegedly attempting to murder a 13-year-old boy at the weekend. His alleged accomplice, Wofa Yaw, is reportedly on the run.
The suspect, who was nearly lynched by an angry mob, was said to have been released later by the Effiduase Police.
A source told DAILY GUIDE that Samuel Ofosu allegedly lured the boy (name withheld) into his room, gave him some toffees and forcibly pulled him onto a mat and attempted to murder him and take parts of his body for ritual purposes.
DAILY GUIDE learnt that some children, who became suspicious when the boy was not coming out of the Sakawa man’s room, raised the alarm which attracted residents to Samuel Ofosu’s house. They were said to have entered the room when he was about to commit the crime and got him arrested.
According to some eyewitnesses, two blade marks were seen on the victim’s belly and neck with blood coming out of them; and he was allegedly beaten up before being handed over to the police.
The Effiduase Police, after taking the statement of the suspect, allegedly released him without going to the scene of the purported criminal act.
When this paper visited the place, a number of charms, knives and other items – purportedly used for spiritual activities – were sighted in the suspect’s room.
Information reaching the paper indicated that the police even failed to give forms to the victim for medical check-up relative to the alleged blade marks on the victim’s body.
The victim told this reporter that the suspect told him he (suspect) was going to remove his (victim’s) intestine but he would not die.
Meanwhile, Samuel Ofosu is said to have gone into hiding and the residents have vowed to deal with him if he is seen in the area.
The New Juaben Municipal Police Commander, DSP Christopher Quacoo, after being informed about the tension in the community, allegedly summoned the officer in-charge of the Effiduase Police Station to his office to explain why the suspect was released without any initial investigation.
