DEENSI Delighted Over Ghana Music Awards Nomination

Tamale based music trio, DEENSI have expressed delight at their Ghana Music Awards nomination and are pretty optimistic of winning the award despite the competitive nature of the category they are nominated in.

DEENSI made up of Sraw Dagara, Shocker Rauf and Commy Dada, have been nominated in the Traditional Artiste of the Year category alongside Sherifatu Gunu, King Ayisoba, Yaa Pono and others.

Speaking on Tamale based Kesmi Fm late night entertainment review with Dr Cue on Tuesday, DEENSI thanked their fans for their unflinching support and prayers over the years.

“Last year has been very good for us as a music group, since we launched our latest album headlined by the ‘LUNBILA’ song which fetched us the nomination in the Ghana Music Awards. We thank God almighty for this achievement. We deem ourselves as being winners already with the nomination even if we don’t win the coveted award” Says Straw Dagara, leader of the group.

Another member of the group Shocker Rauf explained that the song titled ‘LUNBILA’ is rooted in one of the traditional Damba Festival folkloric songs sung during the Damba Festival celebrated by the people of Northern Ghana.

Asked by Dr Cue on how they feel about the nomination, they said they feel delighted and sparked to work much harder to get to greater heights in their music career.

This is the second time in the history of the Ghana Music Awards that a Tamale based musician has been nominated. The last time was in 2005 when Sheriff Ghale was nominated for the Reggae Song of the Year which he subsequently won.

The trio is confident of walking away with the plaque on the awards night in view of the efforts and creativity employed in making the track especially the music video.

Last year, Sherifa Gunu walked away with the Traditional Artiste award.

This year’s Ghana Music Awards will take place on Saturday May 3 at the main auditorium of the Accra International Conference Centre.
