Akufo-Addo’s grand announcement was only to scare rivals-Agalga

A deputy Interior Minister James Agalga says Nana Akufo-Addo’s grand announcement of his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries was only “orchestrated to intimidate and cow his opponents” who may want to contest him. According to him, the announcement was not at all surprising to political watchers but the manner in which it was done was only to “scare off potential rivals.” The NPP 2012 flagbearer after a six-months hiatus from the hurly burly of front line politics announced a return with his eyes set on winning the party’s presidential slot. The announcement was made in splendor with key party functionaries, executives, MPs all trooping to the Nima residence of Akufo-Addo to catch a glimpse of what they expected to be a triumphant announcement. They were not disappointed as Nana Addo enchanted the crowd, promising a return to politics and hopefully a better and well managed economy if voted as president in 2016. Speaking on Joy FM and MultiTV Newsfile programme James Agalga said the ceremonious announcement was stage managed to put fear in persons who would want to contest the NPP front-runner. He was however unequivocal in his belief that Nana Addo’s return and possible election as flagebearer- will be nothing more than an icing on the cake for the NDC who are poised for a third successive victory against Akufo-Addo. He said the NDC has shown it has the antidote to the consummate lawyer. But a member of the NPP Ayikoi Otoo said the party had no hand in the organisation of the event. He said all those who attended the function did so on their own accord. He said even if the occasion was to put fear in the opponents of Nana Addo that strategy was still part of politics.
