Okoe Vanderpuije Halts Projects That Pose Threat To Human Life
The Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, has ordered some building projects in the metropolis to be stopped because they pose safety concerns to human life.
He gave the orders, when he led officials of the assembly to inspect development projects in Dzorwulu and Dansoman, both suburbs of Accra.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the AMA, Numo Blafo told Joy News the visit is a routine exercise by the Mayor to correct anomalies on building constructions and sanitation in the metropolis.
“Every Friday, it is a routine exercise that we undertake and it is the chief executive officer, who leads the team”, Numo Blafo noted.
According to him, the inspection team looks out for instances of breach of the AMA bye-laws and enforces the law.
The AMA PRO said buildings under construction that do not have permits are stopped by the inspection team.
Additionally, workers, who continue with construction works on buildings that bear the stop work directive, are arrested to enable the developer follow the right and appropriate procedure, Numo Blafo indicated.
In the area of sanitation, the PRO stated that the inspection team looks out for instances of heaps of refuse in the town and alerts the waste management department of the assembly to deal with the situation.
The exercise is expected to to draw the public’s attention to the bye-laws and to prevent disasters such as the recently collapsed seven storey building at Nii Boi Town and that of the Melcom building that happened two years ago.
