Assembly Members Go Red Against MPs…As They Rally Behind AMA Boss

The General Assembly of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly has gone ‘red’ as result of a motion moved on the floor of Parliament by the MP for Okaikoi Central Hon. Patrick Boamah, calling for the passing of a vote of no confidence in the Mayor, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije.

Members of the Assembly, all cladded in red arm bands, showing off their displeasure against the MP who they claimed failed to be part of the Assembly even though he is to be a member of the Assembly by law.

The angry Assembly members dared parliamentarians to hands-off the Mayor or welcome the wrath of the people who are confident in the Mayor for doing a good job.

Addressing the media amid singing of war songs, spokesperson for the General Assembly, Isaac Aidoo Assemblyman for pointed out that by law the MP, Mr. Boamah who is making the frivolous accusations against the mayor only visits the Assembly for his Common Fund.

The Assembly members categorically stated their position stressing that there is no way they, as members, who have supported the mayor in all his activities to ensure massive development in the Metropolis, will sit and allow persons like Mr. Patrick Boamah to destroy what they have achieved as an Assembly.

They averred that the many developmental projects being undertaken in the Municipality are projects that were spearheaded by the Mayor with full support from the Assembly.

“We can say that no MP can take credit for all the good things that are happening to Accra in terms of development. all the projects are spearheaded by the Mayor and the MPs always take credit for them,”

“….talking about schools, water, health, and many other things,” they stated.

Mr. Isaac Aidoo described Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije as one of the best, if not the best mayor Accra ever had, stressing that the CONTI Project, Millennium City Schools, Zero Cholera record, the Korle Lagoon dredging project, among others are the many feats the Mayor has achieved for the community for which he must be commended but not to be crucified.

“We are ready to resist any attempt by anybody to force the Mayor to leave office. This call by the MP is unfortunate and we strongly stand against that,” he said.

The Assembly members who did not hide their disappointment in Hon. Patrick Boamah for making such statement on the floor of Parliament accused the MP of witch hunting.

The Assembly members argued that, the MPs interest is not in the development of the Metropolis like the passion the Mayor has for the people, but in the Common Fund he is enjoying for doing virtually nothing to better the lives of the people.

In another development, the Accra Market Associations have also rallied their support for the Mayor, kicking against the MPs demand for the mayor to be removed from office.

They pledged their unflinching support for the Mayor and the Assembly in ensuring that the Better Ghana Agenda is pursued and achieved.
