First phase of eGovernment platform project completed


Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane-Boamah, has commissioned the One-Stop Service Centre as part of the first phase of the eGovernment Platform Project.

The eGovernment project, which is being built by Huawei Technologies (Gh) Ltd, will enable the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to improve the activities of the country’s public sector organisations, when completed.

The first phase of the project, apart from the One-Stop Service Centre, also provides Tele-Presence, Call Centre for e-Government services, Metro fibre, Local Area Network for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Secondary Data Centre in Kumasi, supply of Desktop Computers and other ICT terminal equipments.

With the completion of this phase, government-citizen interaction is expected to be expedited through an integrated administration service centre for about twenty Government agencies including Ghana Post, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, among other agencies also form part of the administrative integration for the first phase of the project.

Dr Omane-Boamah made these known during a brief handing over ceremony on Monday March 17, 2014 in Accra.

The service centre has been deployed with Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology to facilitate data transmission at 4th Generation speed levels.

“This will ensure that the service centre provides one-stop services for all Ghanaians with fast and professional business operations by the Agencies”, the Minster noted.

The Minister revealed that Phase 2 of the project will see the construction of twenty-one Community Information Centres (CICs) in Nandom, Nabdam, Drobonso, Effiduase, Bodi, Twifo Atti Morkwa, Glefe, Abokobi, Keta, Bator, Nalerigu, Sanarigu, and many other locations far from the capital.

The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) will provide technical support for the project to ensure service-delivery efficiency.
