NPP Warns NDC

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sternly cautioned the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its assigns to stop creating confusion in Tamale, the Northern regional capital, where the party’s upcoming national delegates congress is expected to take place.

The NPP is scheduled to hold its national delegates congress at the Tamale Sports Stadium on April 12, 2014 to elect national officers of the party.

Yaw Buaben Asamoa, the former Deputy Communications Director of the party, who is contesting for the General Secretary position of the NPP, said the deliberate attempt to instigate violence in Tamale ahead of the upcoming congress would not be countenanced by the NPP.

He accused government of creating tension in the northern parts of the country.

Addressing party delegates in the Volta region, Mr Asamoa said, “It is now clear that the government is behind the unending violent attacks, killing of innocent people and burning of properties by the youth in Tamale.”

In view of the rising tension in the region (North), Mr Asamoa, who is affectionately YB, said “if anything untoward happens at the congress, the Mahama-led NDC Government will be held accountable.”

He commented on violent attacks being engineered by the NDC in certain regions of the country against NPP members.

“Whatever the machination is, the NPP congress will surely happen in Tamale,” he assured the party’s delegates.

The General Secretary aspirant therefore called on the State and for that matter, government to provide maximum security in the country, especially in Tamale ahead of the NPP’s congress as provided by the 1992 Constitution.

“Every citizen of Ghana deserves protection from the government of the day and that NPP delegates will demand that protection from this government,” he emphasized.

Yaw Buaben Asamoa therefore urged NPP delegates and the leadership to be firm on issues of law and order, saying “the National Council has decided that the congress should be held in Tamale and that should be it.

“The leadership of the party should not be intimated by the deliberate instigation of violence. We believe in the rule of law and that anybody should act as such. We are finally calling on the security agencies to act in that direction.
