Why I am Obsessed With Nana Akufo Addo

I woke up this morning and I asked myself, Razak, why are you obsessed with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The answer came as quickly as the thought and that is, if anybody puts himself or herself up to lead this country, it is my duty, to ensure that this country gets the best person for the job to lead it, besides the old man just makes news, mostly for the wrong reasons.

I love the man, if I have any wish, I will wish Nana Addo becomes President of this country in another life, not this one. Charley because, old man abr3.

And so like programmed choreographers, some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are dancing themselves to stupor over the arrival and the subsequent tour of their twice defeated flagbearer Nana Addo from his self imposed exile to seek the face of God in London.

The old man braced into town and before I or anybody could guess the political future of a man, who has kept dodging a simple question of, will you contest in 2016, he is already in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region to seek audience with Otumfuor Osei Tutu II. Typical of the NPP and its well known penchant to take people for a ride, nothing was spared to celebrate the so-called triumphant entry of Nana Addo into Kumasi.

Hypocrites they are and hypocrites they will remain, they simply do not have shame, this is the reason.

After the Supreme Court had validated the election of John Dramani Mahama, an online newspaper, with faceless editors, published a story that alleged that the eminent Chief of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuor Osei Tutu, had bribed the Supreme Court Judges, who heard the frivolous election petition filed by Nana Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Nana Addo to rule in favour of the chosen one, President John
Dramani Mahama.

Nana Addo and his cohorts in NPP, for whatever reason, never publicly condemned the publication and distanced themselves from it; rather they allowed it to fester, until Asantehene came out to deny the allegation.

This is the same Nana Addo, at a peace summit organized under the auspices of Otumfuor prior to the 2012 elections, went off tangent, accusing everybody of fanning violence, but himself. Today he has found it necessary to go and consult Otumfuor, about his political future, I see interesting times ahead.

I thought, before he left for the United Kingdom, he said he was going to seek the face of God?

So like the battle is the Lord’s that ended in the Supreme Court, he is not convinced God can hear and answer his prayers, he has to seek the
face of the Asantehene now?

Prior to the 2012 elections, i.e. after Nana Addo was elected to lead the NPP, he embarked upon a lot of tours to familiarize himself with Ghanaians. Unfortunately for him after all the tours, although he knew the country so well, the country did not know him and that does not win anybody an election.

Nana Addo embarked upon so many tours across the country, from Thank You Tour, to Restoring Hope Tour, to Organize and Capture Tour etc. he is now a walking encyclopedia on local tourism in Ghana.

All these efforts and criss-crossing the nook and cranny of the country, was to afford him the opportunity to meet Ghanaians from all walks of life, interact with them and appreciate their problems. It was to inform him as to what Ghanaians needed most, so that in fashioning out policies and programmes, you know what to take to them, in order for them to vote for him.

After all the tours, Nana Addo only came home with one policy and that was his audacious “Free Senior Secondary School”, which President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have beaten him to it. Last week I wrote an article, reechoing my earlier position on the promise of free SHS, I for one do not support it, regardless of who is promising or implementing it, simply because, we are not ready for it, we do not have the resources, both financially, human and logistics to see to the smooth and successful implementation.

Someone decided to describe Nana Addo as a Professional flagbearer and I think the person cannot be further from the truth.

2014
The tours have started again, so as a fan of Nana Akufo-Addo, I want to suggest a few tour mottos, I believe, if he follows religiously will endear him to the general public that have remain elusive to him since 2008.

INDECISION TOUR
As it stands now, the man has not publicly stated whether or not he will contest. His Pentecost day has not happened yet. He is still waiting to hear the voice of God. The Holy Spirit has not spoken to him yet. So I suggest his first tour should be called indecision tour.

WARM UP TOUR
After the indecision tour, his next tour should be called warm up tour, to see if he is still popular among Ghanaians. Undoubtedly, when it comes to the NPP, Nana Addo is still relevant and the most popular candidate, so winning their primaries is a walk in the park for him. As Kweku Baako Jnr, Managing editor of the Crusading Guide put it; he is the man to beat in NPP. This tour will afford him the opportunity to know whether Ghanaians will vote for him.

DENOUNCING ALL-DIE-BE-DIE TOUR
Nana Addo, a tribal jingoist, I didn’t believe it until I heard the tape, “yen akanfo”. This was followed by all-die-be-die, this statements really affected him in the last election. He will do himself and his party good, if he goes round to apologize to Ghanaians that he was carried away and that he didn’t mean it. Nana, I am sorry, only means you are a better man today than you were yesterday.

TOUR TO EX-PRESIDENT KUFUOR’S RESIDENCE
Nana Addo and his campaign team visited the office of the former President, Jerry John Rawlings in the heat of the 2012 elections, to demonstrate a semblance of peace between him and the former President, that ceremony was materially empty and of no value, but which holds so much for people who have nestled in the NPP in their desperate bid to reserve Ewe votes and support for their flailing campaign en route 2012. It was a mistake that came back to haunt them.

Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, although a member of the NPP, also deserved the same attention that preceded Nana Addo’s visit to Jerry Rawlings’ office. I believe going into 2016, he will need to visit the former President, perhaps to atone for his sins and ask for his blessings as well.

OLDMAN ABR3 TOUR
One thing is for sure and that is, the old man is tired. In rebranding himself, I will suggest that his tour after ex-President Kufuor’s house should be christened “Old man abr3”. This could win him some sympathy votes, but that will sure not guarantee him victory to become President.

YENE WO SERE KWA TOUR
Nana Addo, must embark on another tour to find out if all the love shown him in the run up to the 2012 election is a genuine love. It is becoming clearer that the old man is receiving fake love. If only you can read the minds of men.

Lastly, if Nana Addo wants to be President, he should stop carrying himself as one. God does not raise arrogant people. Humility pays old man. You need to recognize that we do not have parallel Presidents in this country, we have only one President and he is John Dramani Mahama.
