Golden Star Ladies Breast Cancer Awareness @ Bogoso/Prestea

On International Women’s Day-IWD, 8th March 2014, the Golden Star Ladies’ Club recognizes the generosity of its sponsors and supporters particularly Golden Star Bogoso/Prestea and Wassa to all its programs that support women and have raised awareness on their achievements, plight and challenges.

There have been great leaps forward for women worldwide in education, the world of work, justice and political representation, but there is still more to be done. IWD gives us a chance and time to reflect our continuing struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.

We believe that girls and young women are agents of change, so we will be joining the millions of girls and women across the globe celebrating and taking action for IWD 2014. That is why the Golden Star Ladies Club is a charity of choice for the global hub for International Women’s Day.

In view of the goring statistics on breast cancer in Ghana, and the reducing success rates of treatment as a result of late detection or diagnosis, the ladies of Golden Star Resources, Wassa, Bogoso and Prestea have made it their prime goal to champion the campaign on Breast Cancer prevention and management as well as promoting proper breast care.

In October the Golden Star Ladies’ Clubs (Wassa/Bogoso) hosted programmes to raise awareness in the catchment communities of the issues associated with breast cancer.

The combined activities of the two clubs and the generous support of the sponsors and participants was a resounding success.

In total the two clubs raised over GH¢ 15,000 for women’s health charities and outreach programs. Out of this, an amount Fourteen Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 14,000) has been presented to Breast Care International and their local Peace and Love unit in commemoration of the 2014 International Women Day Celebration.

The Golden Star Ladies Club supported by its partners namely DHL Global Forwarding Ghana, International SOS, Primus Catering and Golden Star Resources Ltd wish to drive home the message “Whether you are a woman or man, you must know that International Women’s Day celebrates your emancipation. Had it not been for women’s emancipation, free thinking would be impossible. An educated woman can raise intelligent children, which in turn creates a self-reliant society” Thank You.
