Traders at Nyankomase Market as well as onlookers on Friday looked on with awe when an Opel Cadet taxi cab with registration number GR 7873-Q, ran over a one-year-old boy, Samuel Dowson Kofi Armah, killing him instantly. The car was being driven by Emmanuel Yankah, aka Yaw Appiah.
The body has been deposited at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE on Tuesday, the Abura Dunkwa District Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum Berimah, said the accident happened around 8:00 am when the deceased’s mother was selling some items by the roadside.
DSP Twum Berimah stated that the little boy left the mother and went under the car, adding that the driver, who did not know that the boy was under the vehicle, moved it and in the process, ran over the him.
The Police Commander disclosed that the boy was rushed to the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
DSP Twum Berimah pointed out that the matter was therefore reported to the Abura Dunkwa District Police Command and Yankah was arrested. He said the docket would be sent to the AG’s office for advice after which the driver would be put before the Abura Dunkwa Magistrate Court for prosecution.
