I Was Sexually Assaulted By Armed Robbers In The Presence Of My Husband

A robbery victim yesterday told a Koforidua Circuit Court presided over by Ebenezer Osei Darko, that Isaac Agormor, one of seven armed robbers standing trial before the court, put his finger in her vagina to confirm if she was in her menstrual period, during a robbery attack in which the suspect attempted to rape her in the presence of her husband.

The victim, name withheld, said that she and her husband were sleeping on December 16,2013 when she heard a bang at about 2:00 am and the lights switched on.

She said her husband, whose name she gave as George, had thought there was an electrical problem but soon they realised they were under a robbery attack.

She said two men with hooded faces stood by them with a machete and a silver gun.

“My husband shouted, Jesus! And asked them why?”

She said the robbers told her husband that they had caught him. They then asked for money and her husband pointed to his wallet on the bed. They had about GH300.00 in it, but the robbers insisted that was not enough and asked for more.

According to the victim, they ransacked the room and took two laptops, two Nokia and two Techno mobile phones. After gathering their booty, Agormor aka Baaba (the short one as he was referred to by the witness), requested that they have sex with her.

“I pleaded with them that I was in my menstrual period. Agormor then came and touched my vagina with his finger to ascertain that I had indeed menstruated.”

She said Samuel Akwetey, Baaba’s accomplice, told the latter in broken English “Leave am don’t you know she be somebody in wife?”

She said they later locked her and her husband in a washroom upstairs.

They promised to go for other things downstairs but they (couple) did not hear of them again until 6:00 am when they raised the alarm for help. Neighbours and passersby called a police officer who lived nearby to come to their aid.

She said the police officer led them to the Regional Police Headquarters at Galloway where they lodged a complaint.

Earlier, another victim, Georgina Boadi, a trader, told the court that at the time of the robbery she was not wearing a dress.

“I was in panties only when they came in at about 1:00 am. One was holding a machete and the other pointed the silver pistol at me. They said give us money. We came because of money. They had GHc55, a bag and my phone.”

Georgina said Agormor demanded sex with her but she pretended she was sick and so Akwetey pleaded on her behalf; but she, her 13-year old house help and her daughter were beaten up. The robbers later took away GHc 1,600 from her daughter’s room.

“They later stole GHc85, a phone and torchlight from my 96 year-old father-in-law who lived with me in the same compound”, she disclosed.

Hilda Ampaw, a retired nurse and also a robbery victim was in court to testify. Samuel Akwetey and his gang did rob her of several ornaments including, gold, silver and diamond jeweleries with the face value of GHc129,760.
