THE ASHANTI Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday launched its campaign for the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections at Aboabo in the Asawase constituency in the Kumasi metropolis.

Launching the campaign, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly called ‘Wontumi,’ said ‘the NPP has started its campaign for 2016 today and is not turning back.’

He therefore tasked the teeming members of the largest opposition political party in the country, to campaign in their individual capacities wherever they might find themselves.

Gov’t Lambasted
Wontumi lambasted the NDC government led by President John Dramani Mahama, for mismanaging the affairs of the country, which as a result, had brought about severe hardship on the people.

He said the citizenry were banking their hopes on the NPP to wrest political power from the NDC in 2016 and restore the country to the path of prosperity.

In this regard, Wontumi said the NPP faithful needed to embark on rigorous a campaign and woo more voters to the party so that its ambition of winning election 2016 would be a reality.

The NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman was addressing a teeming party faithful who thronged the Aboabo School Park on Sunday to take part in the NPP’s People’s Forum programme.

Under the theme, ‘He stole your presidency; he stole your verdict; he stole your vision,’ the event was sponsored by Wontumi and it was aired live on Ash FM in Kumasi for residents of the entire region to be part of the event.

No Nana No Vote!
Wontumi’s speech was temporarily interrupted by the teeming NPP fans with ‘No Nana No Vote!’ chants which temporarily stalled the programme.

The NPP Chairman, somehow, looked speechless, following the wild chants by the party supporters who were calling for Nana Akufo-Addo, the party’s two-time standard bearer, to lead the party once again in 2016.

When the noise finally subsided, Wontumi said after eight years of mismanaging the country, the NDC ought to step aside in 2016 for the NPP, which has experienced and competent people, to come and restore hope to the country.

Muntaka’s Seat
He said the Ashanti Regional NPP had declared ‘war’ on the seat of the Asawase NDC Parliamentarian, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, stressing that the Asawase seat would fall to the NPP in 2016.

Wontumi alleged that information privy to him indicated that Muntaka has plans of distributing mats, matches and other cash incentives, to woo the Asawase voters to vote for him in 2016.

He therefore, admonished the people not to allow him to induce them with cash and other items to retain his seat, lambasting the Asawase NDC MP for failing his constituents.

Wontumi charged people residing in the Zongo communities to lead the NPP’s campaign for the 2016 election, stressing that rumours that the NPP was an Akan party was a propaganda tool by the NDC to win cheap votes.

According to him, the NPP belongs to any Ghanaian who believes in the ideologies of the party, stressing that as Chairman of the party in the region, the days when its members in the area were intimidated by their political opponents, were over.
