Be candid with the true state of the nation – Asibey-Yeboah tells Mahama

Economist and Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, Dr. Mark Asibey-Yeboah, is asking President John Mahama to be candid with Ghanaians on the true state of the nation as he addresses Parliament, Tuesday, February 25, 2014.

In his opinion, the true state of the nation under the Mahama-led administration gives no hope to the ordinary Ghanaian.

“The true state of the nation is one of hopelessness. President Mahama must tell Ghanaians the truth”, he stressed.

President John Mahama, in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, will address Parliament on the state of the nation on Tuesday February 25, 2014. The address, according to reports, will focus on the economy, energy and water crisis in the country.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Dr. Asibey-Yeboah said President Mahama’s address tomorrow will not have any impact on the ailing economy.

He intimated that the address will just be a rehash of old speeches and unfulfilled promises to Ghanaians.

Dr. Asibey-Yeboah said given the current socio-economic condition in the country, the much touted ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ campaign message of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is now a “Bitter Ghana Agenda”.

“I can say on authority that the much touted Better Ghana Agenda will not be in President Mahama’s address to Parliament”, he stressed.

The New Juaben South MP noted that the president will rather earn the trust of the Ghanaians if he [Mahama] admits that the economy is in shambles.

Dr. Asibey-Yeboah therefore advised President Mahama to move away from the usual “propaganda speeches” in his State of the Nation Address and proffer solutions to what he described as the unbridled hardships in the country.

“There are serious economic challenges; this is not the time for Better Ghana Agenda propaganda”, he noted.
