Need To Invest In Research And Technology – Prof. Boateng

Professor Frimpong Boateng, Former Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, has stressed the need for government to invest in research and technology to facilitate development.

He said African leaders must take advantage of technology and research to develop the continent as Korea had done resulting in her rapid development.

Prof. Boateng made the remarks on Saturday at the Fifth Graduation of Accra Institute of Technology.

He said the country’s educational policy must be targeted at meeting the specific problems facing the country, hence graduates must come out with creative and innovative minds capable of solving problems.

Prof. Boateng blamed political leaders for failing to institute pragmatic educational policies to address the needs of students to take up challenging jobs adding that Africa’s contribution to world commerce was insignificant.

He said no country could ignore science and technology because the world was driven by technological advancement and called on African leaders to be creative and not to re-invent the wheel.

He called for the expansion of technical and vocational training schools to train the youth and equip them with skills to live independent lives because that was the benchmark of successful nations.

Prof Boateng urged the graduates to be focused, disciplined and creative in their fields of endeavour and use their time and energy profitably to improve productivity.
