Kotoko Opens 10-Point Lead

Asante Kotoko opened a 10-point lead in the First capital Plus Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Ebusua Dwarfs in their outstanding match at the Baba Yara Sports stadium, Kumasi on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors shot into the lead on 17 minutes when Abdul Yussif Aziz outpaced Dwarfs’ Stephen Aidoo in a counter-attack and let go a thunderbolt to beat advancing goalkeeper Patrick Antwi.

Kotoko’s defender Smallboy Cobbah snatched the second goal for the homers in the 23rd minute, soaring above Dwarfs’ defence to nod home a Stephen Oduro corner-kick.

The visitors, sensing danger, marshaled more men in midfield and succeeded in frustrating their opponents to end the first half.

On resumption, Dwarfs threw caution to the wind and piled up incessant pressure on Kotoko, initiating most of their attacks from the flanks.

In one of their daring moves upfront, Dwarfs’ Richard Gadze intercepted a pass on the left flank, dribbled past Kotoko’s Bobie Ansah and Abeiku Ainooson and ran deep into the vital area to put the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Joseph Addo in the 62nd minute.

The visitors seized control of the match in the latter stages and made several attempts to fetch the equalizer, but goalkeeper Addo proved equal to the task with some brilliant saves.
