Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira, Director General of Ghana Health Service, has advised doctors to take up the challenge of working in rural areas as the medical profession was all about sacrifice and confidence.
He said it was time doctors made a difference in the health sector by challenging themselves to deliver quality health care to their clients in the rural areas instead of focusing solely in the cities.
“Medicine is all about sacrifice, confidence, humility and having your patients interest at heart at all times,” he said.
Dr Appiah-Denkyira gave the advice when the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC) inducted 181 newly qualified medical and dental doctors into the profession in Accra on Saturday.They are 107 men 74 women.
He urged the newly qualified medical practitioners to accept postings to rural areas for their housemanship.
Dr Eric Asamoa, Chairman of the GMDC, who led the doctors to take their hypocritical oath, that sought to remind them of their duties and what are expected of them, urged the practitioners to always abide by profession’s code of ethics, establish good clientele and put their patients needs first.
