GNFS Announces Fire Safety Alert In Accra And Tema Metropolis

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has observed with concern the non-availability of water in some parts of Accra and Tema, which has rendered many fire hydrant dry.

A statement issued by the GNFS and signed by Ellis Robinson Okoe, Acting Head of Public Relations, with a copy made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday said: “It will be appreciated that fire fighting requires usage of water and since fire hydrants are also affected by the water shortage, the general public are advised to be circumspect in handling of naked flames, and also plan adequate fire safety measures in homes, offices and the markets.”

The statement said the Fire Service may be constrained with water availability in case of any major fire outbreak which requires large volume of water, and urged the public to heed to this safety advice, so as to avert any fire incident, since other alternative water sources are at distance.

It advised the public to desist from tempering and causing damage to Fire Hydrants, and assured the public that education was on-going, to ensure the safety of all the citizenry.

“The public is further advised to call the Fire Service on the following networks or alternatively reach the service at the following locations.
