The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon Abla Dzifa Gomashie says she will want to be part of any beauty pageant or reality show that has a noble purpose which will be of value to humankind.
According to her, beauty is relative, and that the true manifestation of a beauty queen should take into account respect for the culture and values of the country, and must also aim at empowering the contestants and eventual winners to contribute meaningfully to societal and national development.“Beauty must serve a noble cause. The looks of a beauty queen must translate into something of value to humanity”.
The Minister made the above remarks when organisers of the Miss Universe Ghana beauty pageant called on her at her office to seek the Ministry’s partnership for the event which would be held in August. She used the occasion to advise organisers of such shows that have affiliations to global organisers to ensure that they get the franchise from the original owners.
Peter Osei Tutu, a consultant for the 2014 edition of Ms Universe Ghana, assured the minister that her concerns would be given the needed attention. He said contestants would be made to work as interns with corporate bodies whose corporate goals and objectives are in sync with the career objectives of the contestants. The team was confident that whatever prize package that would be announced would be honoured.
