Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founder member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reiterated his position that there is a systemic issue of ethnic skewing within the leadership of the NPP which must be tackled boldly.
He said there was an issue about the leadership of the five party standing committees being predominantly Akan.
This was contained in a statement issued by Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe in reaction to an NPP statement dismissing questioning of the composition of the national vetting committee.
In a reaction to Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe’s assertion, which was carried in the Daily Graphic last Saturday, the NPP said the premises on which he made the assertions were flawed.
However, the press release signed and issued by Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe argued that provisions in Article (D) of the NPP’s constitution, among other things, mandated every member to be vigilant in ensuring that the party’s values were observed at all times.
“I treat with contempt the pathetic but sinister attempt by Perry Okudzeto to use the NPP’s constitution to gag me,’’ he stated.
According to Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, the duties of NPP members spelt in the party’s constitution are not communist party-type provisions.
“Some of us who contributed to the founding of the party are not timorous souls and will not sit by unconcerned if there are things to be corrected,’’ the press statement explained.
The statement asked where Okudzeto’s outfit was when senior party figures engaged in ethnocentric discourse that brought the party into disrepute before the 2012 elections.
According to the statement, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe is working in the trenches in Greater Accra where such pronunciations caused great disaffection to the party.
The statement further wondered where the disciplinary system was when senior party members were unduly vilified in the heat of the 2012 campaign.
“The statement explained that the NPP traditionally had a constructive relationship with the media and Okudzeto should not use his stint as acting director of communications to jeopardise the relationship by attacking the Daily Graphic for merely reporting on my comments.’’
