Kyebi(E/R), Feb. 19, GNA – The Eastern Regional Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kiston Ohemeng Kissi has paid a courtesy call on the Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin at the ‘Ofori Panyin Fie’ at Kyebi.

The Regional Chairman in a speech, reaffirmed the commitment of the party to run an open and transparent administration that would draw on the diverse ethnic mix of the region for eventual development.

He said, the ultimate goal of the NPP was to win the 2016 general election in order to govern Ghana in a participatory environment in which every law abiding citizen would be able to achieve his aspirations.

Mr Kissi assured the Okyehene and the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council of the preparedness of the NPP to team-up with them so that together, they could find long-term solution to some of the myriad social problems that had engulfed the area over the years.

He said although the Akyem area since independence had proven to be the stronghold of the NPP, the party would not take the area for granted when the party wins political power in 2016.

Mr Kissi said, the regional secretariat would aim at strengthening all constituencies in the region, by providing them with the necessary logistics, especially in areas where the party had failed to make in-roads in the past.

The NPP regional chairman paid tribute to the late Joesph Boakye Danquah and the late William Ofori Atta for their immense contributions to democracy in Ghana.

The Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin commended the NPP for the peaceful manner they organized their regional delegates’ conference and elected new executives.

He congratulated the regional chairman and other elected executives and urged them to work hard for the party to achieve its objective of winning political power.

Osagyefo said, the desire of the people of Abuakwa was to partner with development-centred agencies to bring about change in their lives.

He also commended the new executive of the NPP for their vision to partner chiefs for the development of the people.

Okyehene said it was unfortunate that Ghanaians continued to suffer in poverty and many people could not even afford to pay their children’s school fees and urged politicians to make life better for the citizenry when they come to power.

He said Ghanaians were looking for government that could implement economic policies and programmes that could lessen their burden where their children could go to school without difficulties.
