1 Dead, Several Injured As Robbers Attack Passengers On Larteh-Ayikuma Road

Seven armed robbers, in the early hours of Monday, mounted a road block on the Larteh-Ayikuma road in the Eastern Region and robbed passengers of their valuable items.

The passengers who were aboard three commercial vehicles were forced by the robbers to lie on the road whiles robbery went on.

Narrating the incident to Peace FM’s Eastern Regional correspondent Michael Akrofi, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Nketia Yeboah said the robbers who were wielding pump action guns set up a road barrier, hindering the movement of the passenger vehicles.

The incident which occurred around 5am on Monday saw the robbers plunder the belongings of the passengers.

The robbery is reported to have turned fatal when an oncoming vehicle on top speed obliviously run over the victims who lay on the road, killing a 33-year -old woman, Agnes Korantemaa on the spot and four others sustained serious degrees of injuries.

The deceased body has since been deposited in the morgue at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, Mampong.

The injured victims were quickly rushed to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital where they are receiving medical treatment.

However, the robbers absconded when the Police patrol team arrived on the scene. They made away with an unspecified amount of money and other goods.

The Police have mounted a search for the robbers and informed the general public to assist them in tracking them down.

The Police PRO warned the public not to mete out instant justice on the suspects since according to him; such action will crumple the investigations being carried out by the Police.
