Security man arrested for shooting daughter dead

A 41-year-old security man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his two-year-old daughter to death at Kwabeng in the Atiwa District in the Eastern Region.

The suspect, Francis Adavu of the Security Net Company Limited at Kwabeng, accidentally shot at his daughter and also injured a casual worker of the firm, Isaac Okyere, about 3 p.m. on February 12, 2014.

He was said to have used a pump action gun to fire warning shots to ward off robbers who attempted to invade the company’s premises.

The Public Affairs Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, told the Daily Graphic that on February 12, 2014, suspected armed robbers attempted to attack the premises of the Net Security Company Limited at Kwabeng.

In a bid to ward off the criminals, Adavu fired warning shots from a pump action gun.

However, as a result, he was said to have accidentally shot at his daughter and injured Okyere, 27, the casual worker.

The two victims were sent to the Kyebi Government Hospital, where the little girl was declared dead on arrival.

Okyere, who is on admission, is responding to treatment, while the body of the little girl has been deposited at the morgue awaiting autopsy, he added.
