National Security demolishes Legon ‘nuisance’ toll booth

Personnel of the National Security Tuesday demolished the toll booth around the Okponglo entrance of the University of Ghana, Legon.

The demolition exercise is said to have been carried out in the early hours of Tuesday.

The National Security Coordinator, Lt. Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey, confirmed the demolition to Accra-based Joy FM, saying the toll booths were makeshifts structures which had caused traffic jams and created “disaffection to the public”.

Mr Lartey said National Security was forced to demolish the structures after warnings for the university authorities to relocate them fell on deaf ears.

He said the toll booth could not be at that location under any circumstances. Listen to the National Security Coordinator. http://graphic.com.gh/images/stories/audios/gbevlo-Lartey-on-legon-toll-booths.mp3

Mr Lartey said given the nuisance and discomfort the activities of the toll collectors were causing to the motoring public, National Security will resist any attempt to situate the toll booth at any location close to a main road and advised that it be sent deeper inside campus.
