Zoomlion embarks on clean-up campaign

Zoomlion Ghana has embarked on a massive clean-up campaign in Accra to clean the environment of filth  deposited by the flood that hit some parts of the capital recently.

The programme is dubbed “Massive clean-up after flood”

As part of the campaign, workers of Zoomlion cleaned areas such as Lapaz, Chokor, Kaneshie and London Market among other places where many gutters had been choked with either plastic waste or heaps of sand posing health risks to both traders and customers.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra last Thursday, the Accra Zonal Head of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr Daniel Martey, explained that the exercise was an initiative by Zoomlion to clean and educate Ghanaians on the effects of flood and the need to adopt proper sanitation practices. He entreated all Ghanaians to come out in their numbers and help in the clean-up as a clean Ghana was a successful Ghana.

Mr  Martey observed that the absence of receptacles contributed to the indiscriminate disposal of waste in many areas. He called on local authorities to assist in the provision of waste receptacles at vantage points to maintain sanity.

He also bemoaned the attitude of Ghanaians towards sanitation, saying that waste management was a shared responsibility and should be viewed by all as such.

Workers of Zoomlion, after the exercise, marched through some parts of Accra to spread the message of proper environmental sanitation.
