The mystery surrounding the death of a Military couple, found in their apartment at Michel Camp near Tema, has been unravelled.
Corporal Fred Nasrame, a 38-year-old soldier, allegedly gunned down his soldier wife Corporal Antoinette Agbagba, 28, who was with the Medical Services at Burma Camp, and committed suicide at their Michel Camp residence.
According to information gathered by DAILY GUIDE, Fred, who was attached to the Ghana Armed Forces Pay Office at Burma Camp in Accra, prevented his wife Antoinette Agbagba from leaving their matrimonial home at Michel Camp in Tema, with her belongings, after calling off their marriage because of infidelity on the part of her husband.
Fred, who was said to have told his in-laws that he would commit suicide after killing the wife if she quit their marriage, took a locally-manufactured pistol loaded with two BB cartridges and shot the wife before shooting himself.
The gun was found beside their motionless bodies on Friday when their room was forced open by the police three days after the incident.
He purportedly gunned down the wife in the throat before shooting his left ribs at close range in their bedroom while he was wearing military camouflage underwear, with his wife dressed in her military uniform.
The military contacted families of both soldiers after they had failed to report to work for some days, and the families also reported the matter to the Emefs Police Station at Mataheko near Michel Camp, who visited the house.
The Police broke into the residence only to discover the two lifeless bodies bloated and in a state of decomposition.
Both bodies have been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, awaiting autopsy.
They were intended to mark their two-year marriage anniversary in March this year when the unfortunate incident occurred.
When contacted, Superintendent Kwesi Ofori, the Dodowa District Police Commander confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, noting that the police were currently investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, a high-profile police team in the Tema Region, led by the Tema Regional Crime Officer, has visited the scene and families of the deceased persons.
Infidelity
Anthony Agbagba, elder brother of the late Antoinette, narrated to DAILY GUIDE the circumstances which led to the incident, indicating that the misunderstanding began when Fred had a child outside the marriage.
This, according to him, compelled Antoinette to leave her matrimonial home, insisting that she would stay at her family residence until the matter was settled.
Shockingly, while both families and some friends were on the verge of resolving the issue between the late couple, he indicated, another woman also popped up with another child that she claimed was fathered by Fred, but the late soldier denied the claim.
Antoinette then demanded a paternity test to prove whether or not the second child he rejected belonged to him.
He disclosed that Fred refused to do the test, and Antoinette, who felt cheated, lost trust in her husband and decided to call off the marriage last November, relocating to the family house permanently.
Anthony Agbagba explained further that on Wednesday February 12, 2014 at about 4:30pm, Antoinette was in her family house at Gbetsile in the Kpone-Katamanso District of Accra when Fred stormed the place.
Antoinette’s brother indicated that a misunderstanding again ensued, following which Fred decided to leave the house in a taxi, adding that Antoinette, who paid no heed to warnings by her parents not to follow Fred, joined him in the same vehicle to the camp.
Mr. Agbagba said on that fateful Wednesday evening, Antoinette’s aim of going to the barracks at Michel camp was to pick her belongings.
According to him, Antoinette was in the process of leaving the house with her belongings when Fred decided to stop her, since he feared that his wife might not return.
Suddenly, the residents claimed to have heard two gunshots from the apartment, but paid little attention to it until the police broke into the house last Friday evening and found the two corpses on the floor, close to each other.
On Saturday at about 8:45am, the General Officer Commanding the Southern Command, Brig Adeti Sampson, visited the scene where both soldiers died.
He was accompanied by the Acting Commanding Officer of the 1BN Michel Camp, Lt Col Owusu.
