Let’s support Mahama to succeed – Prof. Mike Ocquaye appeals

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya constituency, Prof. Mike Aaron Ocquaye has called on Ghanaians to support the President Mahama-led administration to find an antidote to the current socio-economic crisis in the country.

He said it is in the interest of every Ghanaian to encourage President John Mahama to take the measures that will bring us out of the economic problems, irrespective of party affiliation.

Prof. Mike Ocquaye, who was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Monday, said Ghanaians don’t have the luxury of waiting until 2016 for a change in government.

According to him, though Ghanaians voted for President Mahama based on the promises he made, it is the responsibility of every citizen to help him succeed in governing the country.

Additionally, Prof. Ocquaye noted that if intellectuals in the country offer government practical solutions to resolving the unbridled hardships in the country, Ghana will be a place worth living for all.

The former MP bemoaned what he described as the polarization of Ghana’s body politic – a phenomenon he says could be detrimental to the country’s progress, stressing that Ghana cannot consolidate its democracy and reap dividends if the country is politically divided between the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said under the present constitutional arrangement, “we can have an NDC President with an NPP majority in Parliament or vice versa therefore it is about time we moved away from the blame-game politics”.

Prof. Mike Ocquaye therefore called on all political parties to assist the Mahama-led administration to pursue the Ghana Agenda.
