THE YOUTH of Konkori in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, who are peeved over the sale of the cemetery in the town as well as school lands to private property developers, have directed their anger on the chief of Adum in Kumasi.

They are accusing Baffour Agyei Kese IV of being the brain behind the rampant sale of large tracts of land in the traditional community, along the old Bekwai road.

According to the youth, the Adumhene had been giving moral support to their embattled chief, Nana Akati Agyeman Ababio, to sell school and cemetery lands without due regard to the zoning and layout.

Speaking to the media after storming the community’s graveyard to stop encroachers and private developers, Yaw Amankwa, spokesman for the youth, said the indiscriminate sale of stool lands of Konkori formed part of the charges that led to the destoolment of their chief.

He stated that the 30-year reign of Nana Akati Agyeman Ababio saw no development in the community, in spite of large tracts of land sold by him, asserting that Konkori could not boast of a good classroom block.

He disclosed that the community has one Junior High School and the only primary school which had its classroom constructed by World Vision International some 20 years ago, was in a deplorable state.

As for the community chief’s palace, the spokesman said the least said about it the better, asserting that it even lacked chairs meant for the elders to sit on during traditional events and meetings.

According to them, Baffour Agyei Kese IV, who had decided to  bring the ex-chief back, was going to face a stiff opposition by the youth.

Some of the developers had already started laying foundations for their building projects at the graveyard and the school land without building permits from the assembly when DAILY GUIDE visited the community.

The youth expressed dismay at the Adumhene’s refusal to give his final blessing to the traditional rites performed to signify the destoolment of Nana Agyeman Ababio.
