‘Remove Illegal Speed Humps Within 30 Days’

MADAM Vivien-Nelly Kunko, Jirapa District Chief Executive (DCE), has given a 30-day ultimatum to communities in the district to remove all illegal speed humps.

According to her, the illegal speed humps were causing so many accidents, leading to the loss of precious lives in the district, and must, therefore, be removed to pave way for the erection of standard ones.

Madam Kunko, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, said the ultimatum was expected to elapse at the end of February.

She said the District Security Committee (DISEC) would embark on the removal of these illegal speed humps after the deadline, adding that affected communities would be made to pay for the cost of the removal.

The DCE said she had spoken to the Ghana Highways Authority to construct standard speed humps at suitable spots, but that would be after all the illegal ones have been removed.

Madam Kunko cited the issue of stray animals as another worrying development in the district, and sounded a note of caution that the District Zoomlion officers would soon be directed to start arresting the animals for their owners to pay fines before collecting them.
