‘NDC Is Killing The Poor’

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has been accused of slowly killing the poor in the country with their harsh and unfavourable economic conditions.

NPP Nasara club Coordinator aspirant, Alhaji Sadat Awudu in an interview with the Today newspaper said the policies of the ruling government is making Ghanaians more poorer than the party came to meet on assumption of office.

“Everybody is crying for a change because people feel the current government has disappointed Ghanaians due to the hardship people have gone through and are still going through…,” he said.

Alhaji Sadat Awudu is contesting the Nasara Coordinator position with seven (7) other NPP members and has promised to secure 50% of Zongo votes for the party which is considered to be an Akan dominated party.

He believes his party has what it takes to better the fortunes of Ghanaians and not the NDC which he says has contributed significantly to the economic hardships in the country.

“The prices of electricity, water and other social services are all going up but unlike the Kufuor-Aliu Mahama administration, the NDC is not introducing any new interventions for the poor….”

He continued that despite the failure in introducing any form of social interventions for the masses, the NDC has watched on as the few ones like the school feeding programme, capitation grant, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the free bus system initiated by his party’s government is collapsing.

Alhaji Awudu Sadat said the situation has led to an increase in the number of extreme poor persons, thus making begging a norm of the day.

These happenings, he said kills his spirit and was of the opinion the time is ripe for the government to put measures in place to correct all such ills.

He thus challenged the NDC government to help sustain the existing social intervention programmes as a means of bettering the lot of the poor.

Alhaji Sadat Awudu further promised to work to make the NPP more attractive to the Zongo community.

The late Alhaji Aliu Mahama’s position as the Vice President to former President Kufour, he said contributed significantly to the NPP winning Zongo votes in the 2000 and the 2004 elections.

He therefore called on the NPP to consider the massive introduction of Northerners into the leadership of the party.
