Accra, Feb. 13, GNA – Capt Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey (rtd), aspiring General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged the party to take the Brong- Ahafo Region serious if it wants to win general elections in Ghana.
He described the Brong-Ahafo Region as a ‘deciding factor’ which would ensure the NPP’s victory to recapture power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.
‘I am not being tribalistic but purely scientific; if the NPP rounds up Ashanti, Eastern and Brong-Ahafo regions, our traditional allies, we can share Western and Greater Accra with the NDC and contain Volta and the North to win every general election,’ he told the GNA in an interview.
According to Capt Effah-Dartey, the Brong Ahafo Region was a ‘real key’ and that planners, strategists and thinkers of NPP mainstream must do very well to give it a serious thought only the party wants to win any election in the country.
He expressed regret that the region seemed to have been ignored if not sidelined or marginalized in the NPP top circles.
‘Meanwhile the NDC through Asiedu Nketia, Yaw Boateng Gyan, Cecilia Johnson and first lady Loudina Mahama are trying to fuel a perception that Brong- Ahafo is an NDC stronghold,’ he said.
‘They are marrying their World Bank, Volta Region and using ‘aliens’ compliance order’ to keep the north in their fold and bulldozed by rigging and shameless raw intimidation ride home to victory,’ he said.
The aspirant said to counter that ‘sinister situation’, the NPP delegates must let their choices on April 12 for the National Executive positions, especially for the general secretary slot, have a representation from Brong-Ahafo.
‘We joke with Brong-Ahafo at our own peril. NPP must sit up and take that Region very serious,’ he said.
Capt Effah-Dartey said he was in the race not for anything selfish but just to contribute his quota for the development of Ghana through the victory of the NPP in the 2016 polls, adding ‘I want to be General Secretary for NPP and nothing else.’
