Armed robbers gun down driver

Suspected armed robbers shot dead a 29-year-old driver, Francis Klu Kumaple, at Flower Junction on the Kade-Asamankese road at dawn last Tuesday.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Akwatia, the District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Aboagye, said the deceased was driving a Nissan Urvan bus, with registration number GR 3404-11, from Boadua to Asamankese with eight passengers on board when he fell into the trap of the robbers.

He said on reaching the Flower Junction, Kumaple realised that the road had been blocked with some big stones and, suspecting that some armed robbers were carrying out an operation, he decided to reverse to avoid an attack by the robbers.

ASP Aboagye said unfortunately for the driver, in the process of reversing, his vehicle fell into a gutter and the robbers shot him in the head, killing him instantly.

He said the passengers started screaming and the robbers fled into the bush without dispossessing them of anything.

ASP Aboagye said the police had mounted a hunt for the robbers and appealed to any member of the public with information on the whereabouts of the criminals to make it available to the police, promising that the identity of informants would be protected.
