Audit PNC Accounts
The Northern Regional Communications Team of the People’s National Convention (PNC) has called for forensic audit into the party’s accounts.
The group is unhappy about an alleged missing GH¢1.6 million cedis, which was meant for the party’s 2012 campaign activities.
The PNC’s 2012 flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga has been accused of diverting the said amount for his personal use, which he has denied.
But the northern regional communications team of the PNC wants the matter to be thoroughly investigated.
The team’s Director, Seidu Abdulai Napodoo told Citi News that the party’s national leadership ought to account for the missing GH¢1.6 million cedis.
‘Accountability is very critical to every political party organization and we want leaders of our party to form a forensic audit committee to look at the monies that were spent during the electioneering campaign, he said.
‘We also expect the forensic audit committee that will investigate the matter to look at the monies and logistics that were given to each region and how much was given to each Parliamentary candidate.’
He appealed to the leadership of the party to stop the accusations and counter-accusations in the media and adopt internal dispute resolution mechanisms to address their grievances.
‘Our leaders should stop insulting themselves and calling themselves names in the media, it doesn’t augur well for us as a party.’
Policy Analyst for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has also backed calls for forensic audit into the party’s account.
This, according to him, will unravel the mystery surrounding the alleged missing GH¢1.6 cedis, which was meant for the 2012 campaign activities.
The party’s northern regional communication’s team, earlier in an interview with Citi News, made the call when a group within the party accused the PNC 2012 flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga of diverting the said amount for his personal gains.
Though Mr. Hassan Ayariga has denied the allegation, Atik Mohammed said the matter should not end there.
‘I think that I agree totally with the group and I support the demand they are making because for me this demand is long overdue.
He stated, ‘We should have investigated how our campaigns were administered in the last elections because some of the problems we encountered in the last elections were largely financial and if somebody could donate an amount as huge as GH¢1.6 million, then I think that it could have contributed significantly to easing our financial burdens.
‘We need to investigate how our campaign resources were managed in the last elections, which people received them and how they were disbursed.
Atik Mohammed took a swipe at Mr. Hassan Ayariga, describing him as a ‘disgrace’ to the PNC.
‘What worries me even is the fact that Mr. Hassan Ayariga, who is at the centre of this, in his response to the group, had actually confirmed that he actually took monies on behalf of the party but the explanation he is giving is that they gave it to him as Hassan Ayariga, but not as our flagbearer. For goodness sake who is Hassan Ayariga? In your ordinary life who would have come to give you anything?’
