An aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman position, Mr Paul Afoko, has disclosed that he will file his nomination coming Monday.
In a telephone interview late yesterday, he told the Daily Graphic that he had just returned to Accra after successfully completing the first phase of his campaign tour to all the 275 constituencies except for those few constituencies in court over differences.
“I will be filing on Monday, February 10, 2014, and then continue immediately with the final phase of my campaign,” he stated.
According to Mr Afoko, who media reports suggest is making huge inroads in the campaign, phase two of his campaign will begin in the north where the party has affirmed it will hold the centralised national delegates conference on April 12, this year.
Throwing some light on his campaign so far, he said he had been received extremely well by the delegates and his message of “uniting to restructure, rebrand, rejuvenate and reinvigorate the NPP to recapture political power in 2016” had become a popular mantra on the lips of many delegates.
He gave a hint that his New Plan for Power (NPP) in 2016 for the New Patriotic Party was aimed at ensuring that the party became the party of choice in 2016.
He called on supporters to be proud of the New Patriotic Party and added: “We brought in the Mass Transit buses and provided pupils and students free rides on them; we are the ones who implemented the FCUBE and introduced the School Feeding Programme; we created the National Youth Employment Programme and introduced the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) among many innovative social interventions.”
He declared that “power is within our reach,” and pointed out that majority of Ghanaians were yearning for NPP but cautioned that “we must first recreate our story, repackage ourselves and rebuild a party that works for political power in 2016.”
He argued that with unity and commitment in the rank and file of the party, the NPP would easily take over power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.
He also enjoined members of the party to put to rest the current wranglings, character assassination and divisions in the party.
