Akoo ‘steals’ show at maiden TV3 choral contest


Winneba based Akoo Show Choir was last Sunday adjudged maiden winners at the finals of Celebrations, a choral contest held at the National Theatre.

They walked away with GHC 100,000 cash prize and are also to receive a set of instruments worth GH^ 40,000 from the organisers as part of their prize package.

In second position was ARS who took home Ghc 80,000. Sackon choir grabbed GH0 70.000 for placing third and T.Y choir took away GHC 60,000 for placing fourth. Zionic Choir and Rhythm took the fifth and sixth positions respectively.

The T.Y. choir won the Most Disciplined Group and Best Costume awards wennt to ARS.

The winners, Akoo Show gave a good impression of themselves right from the start of the show and it was no wonder they eventually emerged winners at the end of the programme.

Their own renditions of songs by Sonnie Badu and Wulomei didn’t only endear them to the patrons present but also won them the admiration of the judges, Rev. Thomas Yawson and Ben Amakye Boateng, from the University of Ghana’s School Of performing Arts.

Organised by TV3, the choral music contest lasted for a period of eight weeks and was aimed at grooming and mentoring amateur choirs in the country.
