The Ghana FA says it agreed to allow goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey to return to Stromsgodset as a gesture to strengthen its relationship with the club.

The 26-year-old has left the Black Stars camp to rejoin his club for Saturday’s crunch game against Rosenborg in the Norwegian top flight.

Kwarasey was not involved the 6-1 demolition of a locally select side in a match meant to bid the Black Stars farewell on Friday as he had to catch a flight back to Norway later that evening.

Some fans have questioned the motive behind allowing the influential goalkeeper leave the Black Stars’ early preparations towards the 2014 World Cup to return to his club for a single game.

But the Ghana FA explains his momentary absence will not affect the team’s preparations but will only strengthen relations between the association and Stromsgodset.

‘The coach [Kwesi Appia] in consultation with the team’s management decided to let Adam Kwarasey rejoin his club,’ GFA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie Daara said.

‘We received a request from Stromsgodset that they are facing a goalkeeping crisis and that they would want Kwarasey back for the game against Rosenborg on Saturday.

‘And since the team is travelling to Rotterdam tomorrow [Saturday] and will be arriving on Sunday morning, we decided to let Adam leave as it will not affect our preparations.

‘This is to enhance the relationship between our players, their clubs and the Ghana FA.

‘The only difference is that Adam Kwarasey will not be travelling with the team to Holland but will report there on Sunday morning just like the others.’
