Ashanti Region GNAT supports orphanage

The Ashanti Regional Chapter of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has presented GH¢1,000 to the Kumasi Children’s Home for the upkeep of the inmates.

The donation was made to support the government’s efforts to cater for the needy and unfortunate children and  promote their welfare.

Making the presentation on behalf of the association, Mr Ransford Solomon Addai, Regional Vice-President, said the money was realised from the recent carols show organised by the association to raise funds for the development of the association and the welfare of needy children.

He said as parents and educators, they shared the government’s concerns to ensure the welfare and proper upkeep of the inmates of such homes.

Mr Addai said there was the need for the public to motivate and encourage the inmates to feel at home to enable them to face future challenges, adding that the association would continue to support the development of the home.

The supervisor of the home, Mrs Victoria Asugnya, who received the donation, said it would reduce the burden on the home and added that the major challenges facing the home were lack of transport and administrative services.

Mrs Asugnya appealed to the public and organisations to come to the aid of the home to ensure effective running of the home.

According to her, the home cannot survive without the support from organisations, churches and individuals.
