Gordons returns for more laughs

The 1000 Laughs series have come to be part of Ghana’s most-expected events on the entertainment calendar and have, for the past eight years, been delivering a good blend of stand-up comedy and music to a largely sophisticated audience in the capital.

The twice-a-year event comes up on Saturday, August 24 at the Accra International Conference Centre, Accra, and for the second time, will be repeated at the Akromah Plaza in Takoradi, the following Saturday August 31.

On the bill is a select A List comedians from Nigeria: Gordons, Klint da Drunk, Osama and a first-time appearance by Sim Card, who is described as ‘hysterical’. Also on stage will be internationally acclaimed comedian Kevin Jay from the UK.

Of the line-up, Gordons stands tallest and the most familiar to Ghanaian audiences, having set the record of returning to the Laughs series for the sixth time!

His real name is Godwin and back in Delta State, people who are called Godwin are usually called Gordons by friends. Godwin Komone is one comic who has contributed significantly to the comedy industry in Nigeria. This Urhobo-born Integrated Science graduate has performed at many top events both in his country and beyond.

Gordons says: ‘Comedy is what prophecy is to a prophet and what Jesus Christ is to a Christian. Comedy is far beyond telling a story with a happy ending, it goes beyond cracking a joke. Comedy is all about being funny and it goes beyond a joke’.

Providing the music segment of the Accra and Takoradi shows will be hitmakers Okyeame Kwame and Kontihene.

The Night of 1016 Laughs and Music is organised by Charterhouse and sponsored by MTN with support from GhOne TV.
