South African side Mamelodi Sundowns have sent out an ominous signal about their potential for the coming season in the PSL with an impressive showing in their pre-season tour of Ghana.

The Brazilian chalked their third positive result from their trip to Ghana as they beat the local champions Asante Kotoko 2-0 in a friendly in the feared Kumasi Stadium.

They had a comfortable win in Kumasi on Sunday over the fabled Asante Kotoko, one of African football’s long-standing superpowers and the Ghanaian champions.

An own goal from Smallboy Korbah and a late strike from new signing Bongani Zungu gave Sundowns a 2-0 win as they continue their two-week camp in the country.

Last week Sundowns, seeking to put a horror season behind them, gave up a last gasp goal in a 1-1 draw with former African champions Hearts of Oak in a match in which they dominated their hosts. They also beat the academy team of Liberty Professionals 5-0.

The Brazilians, whose coach Pitso Mosimane has promised a new approach for the coming campaign, play one more game before heading home – on Wednesday against Ebusua Dwarfs at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast.

In between they have been training.

Ghana has laid out the red carpet for Sundowns, returning the favour after the South Africans opened their facility at Chloorkop to the Ghana national team last month.
