Asante Kotoko have begun negotiations for a US$2m sponsorship deal from an unnamed American firm.

Talks between both parties are said to be at an initial stage for the sponsorship deal which will be the most lucrative package ever secured by a Ghanaian club.

The current unrest in the Kotoko camp however threatens to scupper this bumper deal.

The club’s Executive Chairman Dr. KK Sarpong has resigned from his post while the future of coach Mas-Ud Dramani remains uncertain.

Fears are thus rife the mouthwatering deal could be affected by the perceived turmoil in the club.

But International Relations Manager Kwame Baah-Nuakoh has assured the club still stands to gain despite the recent unrests.

“We are in discussions with an American company over a sponsorship deal worth in the region of $2m,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“I have had meetings with this company and they have written letters to the club to that effect.

“These deals and any other sponsorship agreement are signed between Asante Kotoko Sporting Club Limited and therefore it is for Kotoko and no other individual.

“Of course there can be a personal touch with the leadership and therefore directions are required in this regard but essentially the deal comes to Kotoko.”

The Porcupine Warriors have successfully defended their Premier League title they won last season and will be again returning as Ghana’s sole candidate in the next edition of the CAF Champions League.
