NPP Communicator: Errors In 2012 Election More Potent Than Ordinary Voter

A member of the communication team for the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Asante Yeboah, has stated that the admission of mistakes by the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Afari Gyan in the 2012 election is a demonstration that errors were paramount as compared to the powers of Ghanaian voters.

According to him, the constitutional mandate of Ghanaians was thrown overboard in the 2012 election by the officials of the Electoral Commission; stressing that the role played by errors in the polls appears more powerful and dangerous than voters who stood for many hours to exercise their franchise.

Speaking to the issue of criticism against the bench, he said that Ghanaians have a right to pass constructive criticisms of the court; adding that any expression of disagreement should not be destructive which will seek to impugn the reputation of the judges.

He however advised that “we have to respect the institutions in the country in order to make Ghanaians have confidence in them”; averring that this will make Ghanaians to rely on the Supreme Court to seek for redress whenever there is misunderstanding.

To him, as long as some court rulings have led to the death of people who were later found to be innocent of the crimes accused of, Supreme Court judges as well as the Executive arm of government can be criticized.
