Grammy award winning international gospel artiste, Kirk Dwayne Franklin is promising Ghanaians two decades of unadulterated music experience on one night.
The Imagine Me hit singer is set to headline the 2013 edition of the award winning Adom Praiz concert, organised by Adom FM, at the Perez Dome, formerly Word Miracle Chapel, Dzorwulu junction in Accra, on August 3.
An elated Kirk Franklin speaking in an exclusive interview on Drive Time on Joy FM with Bola Ray said he cannot wait to be in Ghana for the all-important concert.
‘You have no idea I’m so excited. I was in Ghana before and I just can’t wait to come back. The people were beautiful, their spirit was beautiful, their service was beautiful and I can’t wait to get back and just kiss the ground that I come from and to celebrate with the people, the goodness of God,’ he disclosed.
The award winning musician made his first ever visit to Ghana in 2002 and says ‘I’m just glad they have invited me back…I had an incredible time and now it’s been over ten years we’ve been able to do more albums since then…so I have to come and do more songs than we did before. I want people to know I am still in love with God.’
Asked about his driving force, apart from God, Kirk Franklin noted that, his love and passion for what he does is unparallel explaining that, ‘when anybody does something they love to do it just comes out naturally; it just comes from the heart.’
‘You hear me talking about loving God and doing songs that celebrate his grace and mercy; it is something that is very natural for me and something I get excited in doing. I can’t wait to come back and do it again for the beautiful people of Ghana,’ he stressed.
Credited with breathing a youthful energy into gospel music across the world, Kirk Franklin revealed that his success story was fueled by the fact that he is excited about what he believes in.
‘When you talk about the grace of God you are definitely talking about receiving something that you haven’t earned or something you never do really deserve…I’m just glad to be a recipient of God’s grace, his kindness and mercy,’ he said.
Using probably the only Twi words he has learnt – Akwaaba (Welcome) and Medo Ghana (I love Ghana) – during the interview, he assured Ghanaians that, ‘We are going to try to do 20 years of music in one night. Ghana can expect 20 years of music in one night,’ and that he is ‘very passionate about coming.’
Apart from Kirk Franklin, who has six solo albums to his credit, some of Ghana’s music gems such as Cwesi Oteng, Cecelia Marfo and Ohemaa Mercy will also mount the stage to make the show a memorable one include .
