‘I Will Not Smoke For Anything; Producers and Directors Should Be Proactive’–Albert Dzah

Popular Ghanaian actor and Tv commercial icon Albert Dzah has said in an interview that he will not smoke in a movie for anything in this world, urging producers and directors to be proactive and creative in their work respectively.

The gentle looking actor said he can play along with cigarette in the hand in a role just as actors do during sex scenes in movies and not necessarily puff it. He said personally he does not smoke and has promise himself never to smoke in his life. ‘I am not against anyone that smokes but I believe smoking should come from one’s own decision and not out of influence. Aside that I am a religious person and it against my religion. Sex scenes in movies are not real but we make people feel it real. The same thing can be done for a smoking role’ he revealed.

According to him, he believes apart from one being perfect for any role in a movie, a good director should also be able to make a smoking scene looks as perfect as it has to be without the character necessarily seen puffing the cigarette. The actor who has played major roles in movies and series recently made the same statements on Cine Afrik, a channel on Multi Tv a couple of weeks ago when a question about smoking was to him.

In his comments about the movie industry, he stated that movie producers should learn to make the right budgets for their movie projects so as to come out or have good products at the end of each production. He said because most of them squeeze themselves with budgets that do not suit a particular script or movie project, they end up marketing bad products at the end of production.

‘When you have a good movie, you don’t have to make huge budgets for advertising but rather you make huge budgets during the production of it because every good movie product markets itself. Producers or production houses in Hollywood don’t advertise their products here on Tv and radio to us but we search for their new movies and buy them because they invest in characters and spend a lot during production so at the end of the day come up with a must watch movie because every character or crew who was involved in the production was well motivated, paid well and so give up his or her best’ he added.

He further noted that some movie directors also don’t give out scripts early. Sometime a director can call a character for a role on the day of shooting and so the character has to be forced to read or mime just exactly what’s on the script. Meanwhile scripts have to be given out to characters at least months ahead of production so that the character can have time to work on himself for the shoot. This behavior in the industry has made it had for us to use new talents because that director giving out scripts on the day of shooting has no trust for the new face and so has to work with the same old face he knows and have trust for. ‘The industry needs to be open to all. Let’s embrace new acts and investors so that the industry can grow. Our industry is still at a stand still which to me it not healthy for our coming generation’ he stated.
