New Juaben south MP pledges support

Lack of social amenities, especially accessible roads at Adweso, a suburb of Koforidua, has virtually turned the place into  a no-go area during the rainy season.

It has, however, won the sympathy of the MP for New Juaben South, Dr Mark Asibey Yeboah.

As a result, the MP has initiated measures to address the challenges.

Although Adweso forms part of the Akuapem Traditional Area, it has almost been merged with Koforidua, the capital of the New Juaben Municipality and the Eastern Region. It is developing fast but with the exception of the main Koforidua-Mamfe Highway which passes through the town, all the roads are untarred, making it almost impossible for residents to move around during the rainy season.

To address the challenges, the Adweso Two Streams West Residents Association, which was formed 10 years ago, had to solicit support from the MP.

At the 10th anniversary celebration of the association, Dr Asibey Yeboah outlined a development plan to address the issue. It included the reconditioning of the roads, which, he said, should be supported by the New Juaben Municipal Assembly.

The celebration also witnessed the handover by the old executive of the association chaired by Mr Agyina Sarpong to the new one headed by Seth Okyere Dankwa, with Mr Felix Opoku Boama as the vice.

“Although it is the responsibility of the assembly to construct roads, I will partner it to do so and at the same time use my share of the Common Fund to provide other amenities,” the MP assured.

He also expressed his appreciation to the founders of the association, which, he said, had the welfare of the residents at heart.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP James Abass Abaa, educated the residents on security issues, while the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Mr Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira, who chaired the celebration, also schooled them on health issues.

Nana Titi Bempong, Adwesohene, had also taken the initiative to mobilise funds for the provision of some social amenities such as a lorry park and cemetery and called on the residents to support his initiatives.
