Bristol City have turned down a bid of £850,000 for Ghana international Albert Adomah from former Premier League side Wigan Athletic.

But even though Wigan’s offer topped £1 million after various add-ons were taken into consideration, it still fell short of City’s asking price.

New Wigan manager Owen Coyle has targeted the winger as a as a potential replacement for Callum McMananam as he plots the Lactics return to the top-flight.

Wigan could return with an improved bid if McManaman departs the DW Stadium in the coming weeks.

Also, newly-promoted English side Crystal Palace are still interested in the 25-year-old.

The London club made two unsuccessful bids for Adomah in January and are expected to test City’s resolve before the transfer window closes at the end of next month.

Eagles boss Ian Holloway sees Adomah as an affordable replacement for Wilfried Zaha, who joined Manchester United this summer

Crystal Palace are prepared to offer in the region of £1m.

Adomah’s market value will fall if he remains at Ashton Gate beyond the end of this summer.

Bristol City could come under pressure to cash in on their biggest player asset as they battle to balance the books.

Adomah has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League and Crystal Palace are playing a waiting game, hoping that by the time they table a bid, probably in August, City’s board will be under intense pressure to sell with the transfer deadline looming.
