Kwesi Nyantakyi tips Black Stars to win World Cup
By Patrick Akoto
Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi feels confident the return of Kevin-Prince Boateng and the Ayew brothers into the Black Stars will make the team world-beaters.
The powerful Ghanaian FA leader confirmed on Thursday that Boateng has made himself available for the West African giants again.
The AC Milan star, 25, announced his shock retirement from international football in November 2011 after just 18 months playing for Ghana, citing frequent injuries.
But the ex-German youth midfielder has communicated his decision to return to the team to the FA boss and coach Kwesi Appiah.
Early this week Olympique Marseille brothers Andre and Jordan Ayew reversed their decisions to retire from international football after meeting Ghana president John Dramani Mahama.
Nyantakyi feels confident the return of the three key players alongside Michael Essien will ehance the country’s chances of not only qualifying for the World Cup but winning it.
“If we have the Ayews, K-P Boateng, Michael Essien to join the squad that will make it formidable, even capable of winning the World Cup.”
“Our position has not changed – we think we need all the best players available to make themselves available for the Black Stars.”
The return of the three players especially has sparked divided opinion in the country with critics slamming the move to bring back players who turned their back on the nation.
The president has not been spared the brunt of criticism following his meeting with the disgruntled Ayew brothers at the seat of government.
Astute Ghanaian Journalist Osei-Owusu Bempah described the action of the Ghanaian leader as ‘negotiating with terrorists’ which has sparked huge reactions from many quarters.
The Black Stars must first beat Lesotho in the penultimate qualifier in Maseru on Sunday before looking ahead to the final showdown against 2012 African champions Zambia in September.
The road to Brazil will still be far from over even with win over Zambia for the Black Stars as they will need to win the crucial play-offs.
