Accra Metropolitan Assembly boss Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije has dismissed calls by some Ga chiefs for him to be removed from office.
The chiefs claim Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije has not done much since he assumed office as Mayor.
All divisional chiefs of the Ga State except two, earlier Thursday gathered at the palace of the Ga Mantse in Accra, to call for the resignation or removal of Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije as Mayor of Accra.
Spokesperson for the chiefs, Nii Ofei Dodoo also accused Dr. Vanderpuije of “running a one man show” at the Assembly.
“The Chiefs of the Ga state live in very deplorable conditions because the assembly has neglected them.
They are rarely consulted on matters of interest and as custodians of the land, we expect the Mayor to consult the Chiefs regularly on pertinent matters concerning the administration of the city.”
They have also kicked against moves to get President John Mahama to re-nominate him as AMA boss.
The chiefs claim the mayor has failed to improve conditions in the metropolis and must be removed from office.
They want President John Mahama to institute a probe into Dr. Okoe Vaderpuije’s tenure as the Mayor. They also stated that the Ga state has been left deplorable under the leadership of Dr. Vaderpuije.
But speaking to Joy News, Dr. Vanderpiuje said the claims are untrue, refuting claims that he is a liability to the Ga State.
“For the first time in the history of the AMA, the shift system at schools in Accra has ended and this happened under my administration,” he said.
