Following a DAILY GUIDE story on how some residents of the Upper East Region felt about the status of Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru, the Regional Coordinating Council has issued a statement confirming him as Minister.

According to the statement signed by Peter Atogewe Wedam, acting PRO of the Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru has been confirmed as the substantive Upper East Regional Minister.
“His confirmation was contained in a letter from the Office of the President dated 17th June, 2013 and signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Raymond A. Atuguba. His confirmation dates back to 12th March, 2013.

“I wish to state that since Hon. Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru assumed office in March, 2013 to date, no single person or group of persons has protested his status as then Acting Regional Minister.

Also, the office of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council has not received any formal complaint from any quarters during the period he worked as Acting Regional Minister,” the statement said.

Some journalists in the region who also received the statement about the minister’s confirmation expressed surprise at the content of the statement, as some of them had referred to Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru as Acting Regional Minister in their stories.

“I’m very sure this statement was issued just to discredit the DAILY GUIDE story. If the Minister was confirmed all this while, how come journalists that have been covering him all this while were not notified of the change in his title? Many of us have referred to Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru as the Acting Upper East Regional Minister and yet the RCC has kept mute over this mistake,” one of the journalists said.
