Regional Minister calls for calm as mass protests hit President’s DCE nominees

Waves of protest by NDC supporters continue to characterize President Mahama’s nominations for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Ashanti region.

The latest is in the Kwabre East District few days after a similar one at Afram Plains District prompted Deputy Ashanti Region Minister, Samuel Adusei, to meet with the chiefs and people of the District and to call for calm.

The announcement of some nominees has been met with protests by disappointed NDC supporters.

Such protests have taken place in Offinso North and South, Ejisu, Amansie Central, and Afram Plains.

Deputy Minister, Samuel Yaw Adusei is asking for calm among supporters of the party.

He said government and the party are working to get the best for the people.

Mr. Adusei spoke after chairing a meeting with residents of Drobonso.

“What we put in place is to manage the conflict between the party and the government. Sometimes it’s just lack of communication so we are able to collaborate with the party executives, stakeholders; we are talking about chiefs, government officials so we bring all these stakeholders on board,” he explained.

Mr. Adusei admonished the party supporters to shelve their parochial interest and rally behind the President.

He however advised aggrieved people to channel their grievances through the party’s approved structures.

“People have their own choices; you have a friend, we are all in the same party. I believe this person can deliver and you think this person can do better so at the end of the day, if you have about five short listed [persons] for the president, of course the president has to take the one he thinks he can work very effectively with. In governance, the president can see better,” he explained.
